Diamond Certification
As much as we love splurging on Diamonds, the process can get a bit overwhelming, isn’t it? You just can’t settle or compromise on anything (not like you should). While the style of the diamond jewelry is a complete matter of choice, some factors do require you to rely on a thorough professional analysis. Thanks to this professional analysis, you can not only rest assured that you’re making a good purchase but can actually get to know your diamond inside out.
A Diamond Certification validates the professional analysis that we’re speaking of. So, you can consider certified Diamonds as a big green flag when you set out on your hunt for the right Diamond jewelry. That being said, let’s get to know all about it without any further ado:
What is Diamond Certification?
When the 4 cs (cut, color, clarity, carat) of a Diamond go through the legitimate process of evaluation, assessment and analysis by an authorized gemological laboratory, it is known to be certified. So, you can consider the certificate that you get along as the paper proof of the quality check of your Diamond. You can also refer to this certification as the grading report of your Diamond.
Importance of getting a Diamond Grading Report
Grading report (the certificate) is more like the report card of your Diamond (and a reliable one). We cannot stress the importance of buying a certified diamond enough, and here is why:
- It works as the official quality check of your Diamond that tells you of its reliability and authenticity.
- In case you wish to get your hands on the warranty service or resell the diamond itself, a certificate can work as the paper proof of your ownership as well.
- It helps in the assessment of the value of the Diamond
- Grading as per a standardized system eases the task of comparing the quality characteristics of different diamonds.
Rosec Jewels believes in never letting its customers settle when it comes to quality. Staying true to that, it only sells Diamonds that are graded by IGS so that you can make the purchase with confidence.
About IGS Certification
IGS, short for International Gem Society, is a globally recognized gemological laboratory that studies, assesses, appraises and grades the Diamonds (and gemstones) based on their qualities, following a set of ethical standards.
How to read a Diamond certificate? Let’s understand the terminology
When you lay your eyes upon the Certificate aka a Jewelry Identification Report, you’d find out how it comprises its entire biodata. Reading it thoroughly requires you to be completely familiar with the following terms:
- Report number:
It is the unique identification number that is assigned to a specific diamond. It allows the Diamond to be easily identified and tracked throughout its lifetime.
- Product:
It simply specifies the category of the product that you have purchased (ring, earring, necklace, body jewelry, bracelet)
- Metal/stamped:
The purity, tone of the metal (white, yellow, or rose gold) are stated here.
- Piece (PC):
The number of Diamonds embedded in the jewelry are mentioned here.
- Shape & Cut:
While cut indicates the overall proportions of the dimensions, facet positioning and polish to determine how well it interacts with the light, while shape describes its physical outline. Both are specified here together ( a round brilliant cut for example)
- Estimated carat weight:
The unit that we use to measure the weight of the Diamond is known as carat.
- Color:
Color of the Diamonds refers to its body hue, saturation and tone. But unlike in the case of other gemstones, the less color the Diamond exhibits, the more value it commands. The grades assigned are: Colorless (D-F), Nearly Colorless (G-J), Faintly Colored (K-M), Very Light (N-R), Light (S-Z)
- Clarity:
The absence of any kind of inclusions is termed as clarity. The Diamond is inspected under 10 X magnification to determine the clarity. The various grades are: Flawless, Internally Flawless, Slightly Included, Very Very Slightly Included 1-2, Very Slightly Included 1-2, Slightly Included 1-2, Included 1,2,3
- Origin Analysis:
Analyzing the geographic origin that the Diamond is mined from, this term tells you if it is natural or not.
